Why did the KU Track & Field team used to wear pink and blue jerseys?

The color scheme of pink and blue were worn from 1952 until 1999. Kansas Track & Field wore these uniforms after an accomplished hurdler by the name of Jack Greenwood was picked third in a tight race when he was certain he crossed the finish line in first. He thought it might have been because his dark blue jersey was not catchy to the eye. Coach Bill Easton then decided to trade the crimson and blue for vibrant pink and baby blue to ensure his athletes stood out at the finish line. Coach Bob Timmons continued the tradition and was quoted as saying, "Our men, they took some teasing in those shorts." Excerpt taken from KU Athletics.
