What is The Big Event?

The Big Event is the largest single day of service at the University of Kansas. It brings together students, faculty, and staff to volunteer at local residences and businesses. It began in 2010 as a Student Senate initiative and now is a part of Union Programs. In 2014, there were more than 3,000 volunteers at 400 job sites around Lawrence. In 2015 they recruited 3,500 students in 350 job sites, but it had to be cancelled to due inclement weather. It's more than a volunteer organization; it's a way to unite the university with the local residents of Lawrence and form a lasting relationship with the community.
