Is the V in "venetian blinds" capital or lower case?

It is proper to capitalize the V in Venetian blinds. The origins of the blinds come from Venice. If you were talking about Venetian art, that too would be capitalized. The conflicting answers come from the term becoming generic. "Cheddar cheese" should be capitalized in today's vocabulary (origins of this dairy product come from Cheddar, England), but since it's used so widely, it has become a word thrown into the deep pit of un-capitalized words that should, in fact, be proper nouns. Venetian references a proper name (Venice), and should be capitalized.
