How many species of birds are in Kansas?

According to the Audubon Society's Bird-a-Thon, Kansas ranks third in the nation for avian species diversity. Kansas ornithologists have counted at least 225 different species of birds. This site has some good resources, and claims that 453 species have been seen in the state.
