What is the origin of April Fools Day?

The origin of April Fool`s Day is uncertain, but is widely believed to have begun when MU chose April as its primary recruiting month. Wait...no...just kidding. It is widely believed to have begun in Europe in the 1500s when the beginning of the new year changed from April 1 to January 1. People who continued to celebrate the new year on April 1 were labeled fools.
